June 2010

Hello again to all our .beautiful. ladies.
It’s time to take your make-up tutorial 1 step further.
June’s Newsletter is all about how to create a .beautiful. smokey eye to complement your outfit for an evening event or cocktail party.

Step 8:
There are many ways that U can create a smokey eye, from the different use of colours to the amount of eye shadow that U apply. We will teach U two ways in which U can achieve this look.
The general rule with make-up is making one area your focal point, so if U choose to go with a bolder eye, the rest of the face should remain neutral i.e. soft lips or clear gloss, contour under the cheeks but no blusher.

The more traditional smokey eye that we all remember from the 60’s uses a lot of black, navy blues, plums & charcoal greys to create a very dramatic, bold & sexy look.

How to achieve the bold smokey eye:

  1. Blend a neutral eye shadow (skin tone) over your whole eye lid.  This serves as a good base to work from so that your eye shadow blends well, especially when using such strong pigments.
  2. Use a flat brush to apply a medium tone (browns or greys) over the eye lid.
  3. Using a round tipped brush, begin with your charcoal grey or navy blue on the outer lash line, blending inwards a long the crease line, ending with a softer pigment towards the inside of the eye.
  4. Starting again on the outer corner blend the same colour along the top of the lash line all the way to the inner corner.  This should join in with the eye shadow on the outer corner, making sure that U blend the outer lash line upwards so that the crease & lash line become one.
  5. Now U can use your black charcoal eye shadow or soft coal pencil (for the extra bold) on the outer lash line blending up & inwards along the crease line & also inwards along the lash line.
  6. Then use a small amount of pigment (your choice) to blend from the middle to outer corner under the eye  working upwards to meet the eye shadow U have already applied.  This should be applied with a small, firm round tipped brush that U can blend beautifully with the upper eye.
  7. Now its time for lashings of mascara, remember 2 coats on the outer corners!
  8. For an extra dramatic finish U can use your black coal pencil on the bottom rim of the eye & paint a thin line on the top lash. False lashes are always great to complement this bold look too.

Star Tip: Always test the pigment on the back of your hand so that U don’t end up with too much pigment 1st time round - U can always add more, but once U have applied too much it can get messy!

To achieve a softer, more classic smokey eye:

U can follow steps 1-7 from above, only changing your choice of colours to softer browns, taupes & greys. This creates an equally sexy look, while giving U a beautiful, more classic smokey eye instead.

Star Tip: To achieve the best results for these bolder looks, U B .beautiful. Advises U to invest in a good set of eye shadow brushes-it’s unbelievable the difference good tools can make.
